“Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face.” -Mike Tyson

In the video Capture Your Flag, author and speaker Simon Sinek poses a couple of simple questions:

  • Why do you do what you do?

  • Why do you get out of bed in the morning?

Those are valuable and insightful questions that we’ve explored since the beginning of January in our messages about Goals, Values, and Limitations. But how do you take those insights and turn them into a plan to help you design the future you desire?

Breaking down your high-level goals into manageable and attainable plans allow you to align those activities with your values and address your limitations.  Your Career Consultant can be like Mickey in Rocky…a coach who can help you develop incremental plans to win each round of a 12-round title bout.

But what happens when that haymaker comes and knocks you down?  Can you fathom a world in which you’re faced with life and career altering change and no concept of how to respond, adjust, and re-engage? By planning now and aligning your actions towards your goals, values and limitations, you will equip yourself with the tools to manage and leverage change, setback, and opportunity in your career and your personal life.

While this process may be difficult and intimidating, your PGA career consultant is ready to help you navigate the process. In fact, the Personal & Professional Development Model was created to walk you through the steps required to develop your plan. Though the guided process, you can take another step in the direction of becoming the best possible version of yourself and prepare yourself to take a punch.

Keep your hands up and roll with the punches,

The name of this blog, Sole in the Soil, carries layers of meaning. Sole plays on soul, a reflection of faith, and the saving grace of Jesus Christ who redeems our souls. It is a nod to my affinity for sneakers, too, symbols of creativity and personality. Soil speaks to the fairways where golf is lived and felt, and to the richer soil of life itself, where faith is planted, family grows, and legacy takes root.
